Global Survey on Sexual Harassment in Media Workplaces

Help Shape Safer Media Workplaces: Participate in Our Global Survey on Sexual Harassment in the Newsroom

AIRPPU and its partners are calling on Ukrainian media organizations to participate in a global survey.

The survey is being conducted jointly by WAN-IFRA Women in News (WIN), BBC Media Action, City, University of London, and the Association “Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine” (AIRPPU).

The study aims to assess the prevalence of sexual harassment, particularly in the online environment, and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies and protective measures.

As the coordinating partner in Ukraine, the AIRPPU team requests your support for this important initiative by helping to disseminate the survey among your employees and contractors. This will help us to collect important region-specific data for further action across the sector.

We ask all editorial offices and publishing houses to:

  • Distribute the survey link to all employees and contractors, regardless of gender, experience, or position.
  • Answer the survey questions.

The survey is short and completely anonymous, and it does not collect personal or organisational data.

Why is this important?

The first survey, conducted in 2018, led to the creation of the Sexual Harassment Toolkit. The next global study, conducted in 2022, covered more than 20 countries and identified several challenges.

  • Sexual harassment remains widespread.
  • Most cases are not officially recorded.
  • There is a significant gap between how management and employees perceive the situation.

The new survey aims to collect more detailed quantitative and qualitative data to improve understanding of the problem and enable the development of more effective protection policies.

Thank you very much for supporting this initiative. Together, we can create a safer world.

This research is being conducted as part of the Stronger Together: Gender Equality and Inclusion project. As a reminder, the Stronger Together programme in Ukraine was launched by the Association “Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine” (AIRPPU), in partnership with the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and The Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association (MBL), and with the support of the Norwegian government
