The Association of Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine fights for freedom of speech and supports regional media. We condemn any attempts of pressure or violence against journalists.
According to the Institute of Mass Information, since 2014, at least 112 Ukrainian and foreign journalists have been taken captive or illegally imprisoned. Many of them remain in Russian captivity, including in Crimea.
We call on international partners to:
• Support Ukrainian media with information and resources.
• Apply sanctions against Russia for the persecution of journalists.
• Help secure the release of all Ukrainian journalists currently in captivity.
Recently, we lost Viktoria Roshchyna, a young and talented journalist who died in Russian captivity. Her death is a stark reminder of the high price Ukrainian journalists pay for the truth.
We must unite to protect freedom of speech and ensure the safety of journalists.
Together, we can make a difference!
