Advertising revenues of regional information sites increased by 35% in 2020

Despite quarantines and lockdowns, regional publishers showed significant growth in online revenues compared to 2019.

The Association of Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine conducted a traditional annual survey of regional media experts regarding the development of the advertising market in online information projects. As a result, we found that the weighted average growth of advertising revenue (without politics) on regional information sites for 2020 was 35% compared to 2019.

The forecast of this indicator for 2021 is a little more restrained than last year’s growth. The interviewed representatives of local media expect that in 2021 it will be 17% (relative to 2020).

The top segments of the advertising market in the surveyed regional online media last year were:

  • Medicine
  • Food establishments
  • Non-food products
  • Real estate
  • Construction materials and services

The data does not include advertising revenue from classifieds and revenue from political advertising. The obtained data are real, not price-based, revenues of the surveyed information sites, taking into account all possible discounts.

The data were obtained as a result of a survey of the heads of advertising departments of regional media of Ukraine, representing central, northern, eastern, western and southern Ukraine.
